Bella Vista Elementary School
Sierra Vista Public School District

We designed this school to replace the old Bella Vista Elementary School which had been condemned due to a serious mold and air quality problems.

The design is a result of the collaboration between Burns Wald-Hopkins Architects, educators, administrators, facilities representatives, and the school board president.

The result is a one-story facility built of exposed masonry, organized around two courtyards. The program consists of 17 classrooms, an administration wing, a multi-purpose room, music room, art room, and learning resource center. While the classrooms have parapet roofs, the common use spaces have sloped roofs to capture natural daylight and create dramatic interior spaces. Every space in the building receives natural light through the playful arrangement of windows and glass block.
